[-empyre-] performance anyone?

i think this is slipping off topic but yes and no. i sometimes teach students from the developing world in a first world nation and i guess something i want them to know is that they have to accept bandwidth as a positive creative restraint otherwise they simply won't get their heads around work that is relevant to why they're doing this in the first place (to make stuff for home).

i guess i dont' see the terms as problematic in this sense, in much the same way that i'd say a painter who today uses canvas needs to somewhere think about this as a positive material constraint in their practice, otherwise use something else, and if you're nostalgic for frescos, go paint one :-) and yes it's still painting but don't complain that you can't exhibit it in that gallery over there.

I'm all for low-tech + high tech. I used to study acting before getting into the visual arts - and we would study all kinds of "ridiculous" techniques. We often questioned why we needed to know how to fence? Or speak in a particular accent? And one day I understood. As my instructor said. "If you can do it - then you can do it. But if you can't do it, you simply can do it." So, I'm still a firm advocate of more is more. Which bring me to another topic I wanted to throw out before Sylvie Parent arrives on monday...

I am curious as to what kinds of online performances are bring done presently. This is the other half of my persona - performance. I have a Website which I've been playing around w/ online personae called The Advice Bunny (http:/www.mobilegaze.com/advicebunny) An scoop on how performance is being presented online? Is anyone involved in this? I am not seeing much performance on the Web although performance seems to be exploding (at least in Canada) as THE artform of the early 21st century. Which seems curious - because performance can be so essentialist. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the subject, if I can make this short detour in the conversation.
